World Environment Day unites agents of change

World Environment Day is recognized annually on 5 June. This year the United Nations invites the seven billion people on the planet to each make one change towards a cleaner environment. Examples of these small changes can be riding a bike to work or refusing to use a single-use plastic bag. These small changes will help reduce the problem of people consuming more natural resources than the planet can sustainably provide.

Sustainable development increases the quality of life for the people on the planet without destroying the environment and decreasing the amount of resources needed for future generations. This can be done by wasting less food and consuming goods that use less energy, water, and other important resources.

If seven billion people made one change towards responsible consumption, this would amount to a big shift in environmental practices.
