The twelfth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), organized by UN-Habitat, will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 4 to 8 November 2024.
As the largest UN non-legislative event on sustainable urbanization, with over 20,000 participants expected in this edition, WUF12 is a critical platform for advancing local actions that contribute to achieving the SDGs. Under the theme “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities,” the forum examines the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and policies.
The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations. The first WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002 and has been held around the world ever since. Representatives of national, regional and local governments, academics, business people, community leaders, urban planners and civil society representatives will be among the thousands of people are expected to attend WUF12 which is co-organized by The Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt. This will be the first time in over 20 years that the forum is returning to the African continent, and it is the first time that it will be held in a megacity.
