During the 2015 International Youth Day, Zambia’s Republican President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu launched the 2015 revised National Youth Policy and the first National Action Plan on Youth Empowerment and Employment. These two documents, supported by the International Labour Organization, aim to create more than 500,000 jobs for the youth in Zambia by the end of 2016.
The President stated that young people, as the majority of Zambia’s population, play a pivotal role in the development of the country and it is time to consider long term sustainable national and youth development goals. This policy will not only guarantee jobs for youth but secure better quality employment opportunities and create a platform for youth innovation as well.
