The UN-Habitat and the International Ecological Safety Collaboration Organization (IESCO) supported by China Development Orient Urban Development and Investment Company Limited have launched together a biennial Youth Innovation Awards Programme. The award was started to promote younger generations of leaders and to give them recognition. These young leaders would be chosen by their motivation to establish businesses that would contribute to solving social and environmental problems.
Another way for young adults to receive the award is through innovative proposals and projects. The award is looking to promote sustainable cities and towns, and encourage talent among young people; it is going to be granted to innovators all around the world particularly those from developing countries.
The five categories that are guiding the determination of the award are youth leadership, green inventions and innovations, urban ecological safety, youth entrepreneurship, and social and cultural innovations.
