Youth with disabilities fact sheet

Yesterday was the commemoration of International Youth Day at the United Nations, New York Headquarters. This conference reminded the global community on including all types of youth in the decision-making process, particularly youth with disabilities.

Youth with disabilities are amongst the most marginalized and poorest of all the world's youth, and their needs are often overlooked. UNESCO estimates that 98% of children with disabilities in developing countries do not attend school and 99% of girls with disabilities are illiterate.

These youth with disabilities face dual disadvantages as individuals with disabilities are more likely to live in poverty even in developed countries
