Information Note for Delegates attending the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha

Preparations are well under way for the Second World Summit for Social Development, to be held from 4 to 6 November 2025 in Doha, Qatar, under the auspices of the General Assembly.
Convened by resolutions 78/261, 78/318 and decision 79/556 of the General Assembly, the Summit will gather Heads of State and Government, senior officials, the United Nations system, civil society, academia and the private sector to advance global commitments to inclusive social development. The meeting will take place at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
A central outcome of the Summit will be the adoption of a concise, action-oriented political declaration, agreed in advance by consensus in New York. The declaration is expected to reaffirm the international community’s commitment to social development and to give fresh momentum to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The programme of the Summit will include six plenary meetings and two high-level round tables. The opening plenary, on 4 November, will feature the adoption of the political declaration and statements by the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Amir of Qatar as host, and the President of the Economic and Social Council. Round tables will focus on:
Strengthening the three pillars of social development — poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all, and social inclusion.
Assessing progress and addressing gaps in implementing the commitments of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and its Programme of Action, and advancing the 2030 Agenda.
Heads of State and Government and other senior leaders are invited to make statements in plenary, limited to five minutes. Representatives of the wider UN system, international financial institutions, accredited non-governmental organizations, civil society, academia and the private sector will also participate.
In addition to official sessions, the Summit will feature a Parallel Programme of associated events and Solutions Square exhibitions, showcasing innovative initiatives and partnerships that accelerate action on poverty eradication, employment and social inclusion.
Comprehensive arrangements have been made for interpretation in all six official UN languages, registration and accreditation procedures, media access, bilateral meetings, health and security services, as well as logistical support for delegations.
The Second World Summit for Social Development takes place 30 years after the landmark 1995 Copenhagen Summit, offering the global community a renewed opportunity to tackle persistent inequalities, strengthen social protection, and ensure that no one is left behind.
