NGO Participation
UN DESA with the support of the NGO Committee on Social Development facilitate the participation of NGOs in the sessions of the CSocD. NGOs that are accredited to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) may designate representatives to attend the annual sessions of the CSocD. Modalities of NGO Participation and Registration: The deadline is 20 January 2025
NGOs play a vital role in the activities of the CSocD. UN DESA supports the involvement of NGOs accredited by the ECOSOC in CSocD sessions. These accredited NGOs participate in the annual sessions of the CSocD. Registration for the 63rd session of the CSocD will be available for ECOSOC-accredited NGOs from early October 2024 until January 20, 2025. For more details, please visit the Registration page.
NGO Written Statements: The deadline is 8 November 2024
NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC General or Special Status) can submit their written statement to the CSocD63, in accordance with Council resolution 1996/31. NGOs in consultative status with the ECOSOC may submit one individual statement per organization and may sign on to multiple joint statements. NGOs are strongly encouraged to submit joint statements in collaboration with other NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC. To submit a written statement, please click here for instructions.
Making a speech during the general discussion:
If time allows, a limited number of NGOs with consultative status with ECOSOC may give oral statements during the general discussion. Priority will be given to NGOs discussing the main theme, emerging issues, or speaking on behalf of groups, caucuses, or coalitions. Each oral statement should be no longer than 3 minutes. NGOs that are selected will receive instructions via email. Registration for NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC, who wish to express interest in delivering an oral statement during the general discussion at CSocD, typically opens in early January.
Civil Society Forum
The Forum is hosted jointly by UNDESA-DISD, the NGO Committee on Social Development and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Foundation. The Forum is a time for NGOs worldwide to learn about each other’s work, to prepare for the Commission, including by work on position papers and interventions. NGO Committee on Social Development
The NGO Committee on Social Development is dedicated to raising awareness and holding discussions on social development issues taken up by the UN System and in particular by the UN Commission for Social Development. The committee holds a Civil Society Forum and other capacity-building and outreach events on the occasion of the Commission. Membership is open to representatives of organizations and any interested persons concerned about social development issues.

Second World Summit for Social Development 2025
The United Nations General Assembly has decided to convene the World Social Summit under the title, “the Second World Summit for Social Development”, in the State of Qatar from 4 to 6 November 2025.
The social summit aims to address gaps and reaffirm the principles outlined in the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and Programme of Action, while also providing momentum toward implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Summit will bring together Heads of State and Government, and its agenda includes plenary meetings, high-level round tables, and the adoption of a concise political declaration agreed in advance by consensus through intergovernmental negotiations in New York.
