DESA Programme on Ageing, in collaboration with the International Institute on Ageing INIA (United Nations - Malta) and DOF in Nigeria, is pleased to announce the event "Advancing Ageing Policy Formulation and Action Plan in Africa", taking place on 11 December 2024, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM in Conference Room 8 at UN Headquarters, New York.

Sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Nigeria and Malta to the United Nations, this event aims to build momentum for the upcoming Second World Social Development Summit in 2025.

INIA, a global leader in training on ageing, has educated over 2,800 participants from 150 countries through its programmes in Malta. Since 1995, it has also conducted 151 in-situ training programmes in 30 countries, reaching more than 5,500 professionals. Additionally, INIA’s work in China has trained over 5,000 individuals in collaboration with government organizations.

This event marks a decade of impactful partnership between INIA and DOF. What began as in-situ training initiatives in Nigeria has grown into the establishment of an INIA Satellite Centre in Sub-Saharan Africa, serving 44 countries. The Satellite Centre is dedicated to enhancing national and regional capacities to create transformative policies and implement effective ageing programmes across the region.
