As part of the 63rd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD63), a Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Promoting Solidarity and Social Cohesion through Cooperatives and the Social and Solidarity Economy as a Path for Achieving the SDGs will take place at United Nations Headquarters.
This high-level discussion will bring together policymakers, experts, and representatives from civil society and the private sector to explore how cooperatives and the social and solidarity economy (SSE) can be leveraged to address social challenges, promote economic inclusion, and contribute to sustainable development goals.
The Forum will focus on pressing questions such as:
- How can legal and policy frameworks support the growth of SSE?
- What steps are needed to develop comparable international statistics on SSE contributions?
- How can SSE principles be integrated into education, capacity-building, and research?
- What role do cooperatives and SSE actors play in national policymaking?
- How can the Second World Social Summit further advance the role of SSE in global development?
With 2025 being the International Year of Cooperatives, the Forum is expected to provide a platform for governments and stakeholders to strategize on policies and initiatives that reinforce SSE as a sustainable economic model.
The outcomes of the Forum will contribute to the CSocD Chair’s summary, providing key inputs for ECOSOC’s high-level segment, the 2025 High-Level Political Forum, and the Second World Summit for Social Development.
By fostering solidarity, cooperation, and sustainable economic growth, this Forum will play a crucial role in shaping the global development agenda and ensuring a more inclusive and resilient future for all.
