On 4 April 2008, the representatives of the last three countries that ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities spoke about the importance of this landmark human rights Convention and its implications for the rights of persons with disabilities worldwide. The treaty will enter into force on 3 May after Ecuador became the 20th country to ratify the Convention.
