71st session of the General Assembly begins...

The General Assembly HallThe 71st Session of the General Assembly opened on 13 September 2016.

During this session, the Assembly will have before it the following Reports directly related to disability:

The Third Committee of the General Assembly, which address social development and human rights questions will begin its meetings from 4 October. See the provisional programme of the work of the Third Committee.

In addition, UN  High-Level Summit for Refugees and Migrants will take place on the 19 September 2016. On the 16 September, the Division for Social Development (DSPD)/Department of Economics and Social Affairs (DESA) and the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations will host a side-event in conjunction with the UN Summit on Refugees and Migrants, titled "Advancing the rights, well-being and perspectives of women and girls with disabilities in displacement through development and humanitarian responses", on 16 September 2016. In view of the barriers to inclusion and double discrimination faced by women and girls with disabilities in displacement, this event is being convened to bring together actors in both the development and humanitarian fields to share experiences, strategies and lessons learned from pursuing integrated responses to women and girls with disabilities in displacement.
