Opening of the IDPD 2017

The Secretary-General issued his message on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on 3 December 2017, recognizing the international community's achievement in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, and calling for actions to remove physical and cultural barriers, to build resilient societies and to create opportunities that truly leave no one behind.

The Untied Nations commemorated the IDPD 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York on 1 December 2017, under the theme "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all".  UN DESA, in collaboration with Member States, the UN system, academic institutions, civil society, and the private sector, organized the a series of events, including the Opening, three panel discussions, two side events, an exhibition, and artistic performances throughout the Day.
