The Division for Inclusive Social Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Development (UN DESA) organized the Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on "Rethinking social development policies and frameworks" on August 24 and 25, 2023, in New York.
The purpose of the meeting was to prepare for the 62nd session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD62).
During the meeting, the following topics were discussed:
- (i) the effectiveness of past and current social policies;
- (ii) how social policies can be improved in terms of design, implementation, and financing to adapt to global and societal trends; and
- (iii) the importance of integrating social considerations into other development frameworks and policies to create a world where everyone has equal rights and opportunities to reach their full potential.
The outcome of the meeting will be used to inform the Secretary-General's report on the priority theme, "Fostering social development and social justice through social policies to accelerate progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to achieve the overarching goal of poverty eradication."
