UN to Hold First Open Meeting with Youth-Led Organisations

From Wednesday 18 to Friday 20 September, the UN Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development (IANYD) is hosting the first open meeting with youth-led organisations and networks.

The three day event will be an occasion for youth to learn about the progress made so far on the System-Wide Action Plan for Youth (Youth-SWAP), which is the UN system’s plan of action for working with and for young people, guided by the World Programme of Action for Youth.

The meeting will bring together over 100 young people from different youth-led organisations, networks and movements, as well as a number of representatives from UN Member States, and the members of the IANYD.

The meeting discussions will also explore ways in which youth can be part of implementing the UN plan for working with and for youth, to hold the UN accountable, and to jointly call for more investment in young people.

“The meeting marks an important stage for the UN engagement with young people to implement the UN system-wide action plan on youth, and to explore mechanisms for institutionalizing youth participation in UN. I look forward to this important meeting to enhance our efforts to include young people as full partners to the organisation’s work at national regional and international levels.” said Ahmad Alhendawi, UN Envoy on Youth.
