Youth join their country’s delegation to the 72nd General Assembly as Youth Delegates

Over 40 Youth Delegates from 30 countries will attend the 72nd Session of the General Assembly in New York. Youth Delegates will form a part of their country’s official delegation including to the Third Committee, the arm of the General Assembly that deliberations social, cultural and humanitarian issues. Youth Delegates to the United Nations are advocates for their fellow young people and provide input to their delegations on youth-related topics and concerns.

SG’s UNiTE Campaign this September Focuses on Ending Violence Against Women

The 25th of every month has been designated “Orange Day” by the United Nations Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women, to raise awareness and take action to end violence against women and girls. As a bright and optimistic colour, orange represents a future free from violence against women and girls for the UNiTE Campaign. For this Orange Day, 25 September 2017, the UNiTE Campaign focuses on the issue of Violence against Older Women, recognizing that women remain at risk for violence throughout their lives.

International Day of Older Persons 2017

The theme of International Day of Older Persons 2017 is “Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society.”

This year’s day is about enabling and expanding the contributions of older people in their families, communities and societies at large. It focuses on the pathways that support full and effective participation in old age, in accordance with old persons’ basic rights, needs and preferences.

Youth can play 'critical role' in creating a peaceful world for generations to come

“I'm truly happy to address you on International Youth Day,” the Secretary-General said a video message. “As Secretary-General of the United Nations, I am committed to the empowerment and inclusion of every young person around the world,” he added.

“In this spirit, I have appointed an impressive new Youth Envoy,” he said, introducing 26-year-old Jayathma Wickramanayake of Sri Lanka as the youngest and “one of the most important” members of his team.
