In an era marked by complex and interwoven crises, the role of the United Nations in preparing for the future has never been more critical. This review of UN DESA’s foresight and preparedness efforts shows how the Department’s economic and demographic forecasts, capacity development programmes, and work towards accelerating an inclusive and just transition help governments and people make strategic choices to shape and prepare for the future they want.

The Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is requested by the Human Rights Council to present two annual reports: one at its regular sessions in Geneva, usually held in September, and another at the General Assembly, typically in October. These annual reports include a description of the activities carried out during the year within the framework of the mandate and often include discussions on specific themes or issues of particular relevance to the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The report explores how youth-led local actions can accelerate the 2030 Agenda while advancing the World Programme of Action for Youth. Drawing on inputs from Member States, UN entities, and youth organizations, it highlights the need for stronger policy coordination between local and national authorities, focusing on social protection, resilient livelihoods, and sustainable communities. The report underscores youth participation in shaping, monitoring, and evaluating policies, and offers recommendations to enhance engagement, coherence across decision-making, and integrated action on poverty, education, employment, and climate.

The General Assembly resolution 79/149 on Inclusive development for and with persons with disabilities reaffirms the commitment of Member States to the full realization of the rights of persons with disabilities, anchored in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Following the conclusion of the post-2015 development agenda process and the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, this Action Plan intends to serve the sport for development and peace community in its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, placing sport in its role as an important enabler of sustainable development.
