Disability in the 2017 HLPF Ministerial Declaration

HLPF 2017The 2017 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, took place from  10 to 19 July 2017, and concluded in New York on 19 July by adopting its Ministerial Declaration.*

Disability has been given 5 specific references in the Ministerial Declaration this year, including in the context of eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity; multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, especially faced by women and girls with disabilities; improved and coordinated collection, analysis, dissemination and us of statistics and disaggregated data; as well as localizing and communicating the SDGs to all stakeholders including persons with disabilities.

The High-Level Political Forum is the United Nations central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provides for the full and effective participation of all States Members of the United Nations and States members of specialized agencies.

The theme this year is "Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world".

Note: The draft Ministerial Declaration was adopted at its 19th meeting in the afternoon of 19 July 2017, with an oral revision to the paragraph 23, in order to reflect a factual details that 43 voluntary national review was conducted during the HLPF in 2017.
