Consultations on Enhanced Participation of Indigenous Peoples in July

The President of the 78th session of the General Assembly, H. E. Dennis Francis, has appointed Co-facilitators and Advisers to conduct consultations on possible further measures necessary to enhance the participation of Indigenous Peoples’ representatives and institutions in relevant United Nations meetings on issues affecting them, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 78/189.

Following on from the zero-draft outcome document, which was the subject of the informal consultation with Member States and Indigenous Peoples on 15 July, the Co-facilitators and Advisers of the PGA 78 have issued a  revised zero draft as of 17 July, which will the subject of the consultation on 22 July.

Please note that registration for both consultations is open for organizations already accredited to the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

Monday, 15 July: 15:00 to 18:00 (NY Time) – Virtual Consultation in English only.

Approved participants will receive a confirmation email with the link to the Webex virtual platform. Please note that the link is non-transferable. 

Monday, 22 July: 15:00 to 18:00 – Trusteeship Council Chamber, UNHQ. Interpretation is not guaranteed, and the meeting may be conducted in English only.

  • From 3:00 to 4:15 pm EST, Trusteeship Council Chamber: informal consultation with representatives of Indigenous Peoples;
  • From 4:30 to 6:00 pm EST, Trusteeship Council Chamber: consultation on the draft resolution with representatives of Member States.

Registration for the in-person consultation will be open in the INDICO system from 5 to 17 July 2024.
