On 13 October, the UN Secretary-General spoke on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Security Council’s resolution 1325, declaring his commitment to the inclusion of women in peace-building processes. The Secretary-General noted that any reforms to peacekeeping efforts by the UN must “be strongly grounded in human rights”.
He also emphasized Indigenous women specifically, noting that “we must also pay particular attention to those women who are most vulnerable” and that “facing a compound disadvantage of gender and ethnicity, Indigenous women suffer from multiple forms of discrimination, especially in times of conflict”.
