Universal social protection is a potent development policy tool that can alleviate poverty, inequality and social exclusion. Few countries have been able to reduce poverty and improve living conditions on a broad scale without comprehensive social protection systems in place.

Expert Group Meeting on Care and Older Persons: Links to Decent Work, Migration and Gender (5-7 December 2017, UNHQ NY)

The fifty-sixth session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD56) will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 29 January to 7 February 2018. The Third Committee of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly adopted the draft resolution A/C.3/72/L.18/Rev.1, with oral amendments from the co-facilitators(PP9 and OP14(a)) and African Group (OP18), with a unanimous recorded vote of 176 in favour, at its 53rd meeting on 21 November 2017.
