Fourth Session of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing, 12-15 August 2013martes, 06 agosto 2013 The Open-ended Working Group on Ageing, established by the General Assembly in its resolution 65/182 for the purpose of strengthening the protection of the human rights of older persons, will hold its fourth session on 12-15 August 2013 in New York at UN headquarters at conference room 3.
The working group was established to consider the existing international framework of the human rights of older persons and identify possible gaps and how best to address them, including by considering, as appropriate, the feasibility of further instruments and measures.
The fourth session is open to representatives of Member States of the United Nations, representatives of organizations of the United Nations system and observers of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, which have been accredited.
The format of the Open-ended Working Group’s session, similar to that of the previous sessions, is interactive expert panel discussions followed by an interactive dialogue.
A programme of work, an agenda and a list of speakers are posted on the Open-ended Working Group’s web-site at http://social.un.org/ageing-working-group/fourthsession.shtml. A compilation of existing international legal instruments, documents and programmes that address the human rights situation of older persons, inputs from Member States, the UN system and civil society organizations as well as modalities for participation of NGOs can also be found on the website.
