Ms. Eva Biaudet was named Ombudsman for Ethnic Minorities in Finland in May 2010.

As of 2011 Ms. Biaudet is also a member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council, with a mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.

Prior to working as the national Ombudsman for Minorities, Ms. Biaudet worked as a diplomat as the OSCE Special Representative for Combating Human Trafficking, in Vienna during the years 2006 - 2009.

Eva Biaudet is a former Minister of Health and Social Services and former Minister of Gender issues. She was a member of the Finnish Parliament for 16 years between 1991 and 2006 and has served as Vice Chair of the Swedish Peoples’ Party and as the Fraction Leader of the SPP group in Parliament. Eva Biaudet maintained membership in, amongst other, the Committees for Foreign Affairs (vice chair), Finance and Taxation, Environment as well as Social and Labour affairs and Gender. During her time as an MP she particularly engaged in human rights issues.

In Parliament Ms. Biaudet also served in various delegations of Finland such as the Nordic Council, OSCE Parliamentarians and the Conference of the Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region. Before commencing her political and diplomatic career she studied Public International Law at the University of Helsinki, Finland.

Eva Biaudet was recently appointed as member of the Board of Governors of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). Her previous international engagements include the World Economic Forum’s Global Leaders of Tomorrow program, as well as membership in the Council for the European Liberal Democrats. She was also assigned to the OSCE/ODIHR Moscow Mechanism, an expertise roster on conflict mediation.

At present she is active in a number of non-governmental organizations, agencies and charities such as PLAN International, the Helsinki Safe House for Women and The Hospital Clowns Association.

Ms. Biaudet is a mother of four children and currently lives and works in Helsinki.
