Ensuring Healthy Ageing for All: A Critical Dialogue at the 58th Session of the Commission on Population and Development

As the global population ages at an accelerating pace, the need to prioritize healthy ageing has become increasingly urgent. On 7 April 2025, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA), in collaboration with the Global Coalition on Aging (GCoA), will host a high-level side event at the margins of the 58th Session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD58).

Resolution to convene the "Second World Summit for Social Development" in 2025

On February 26, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 78/261, officially establishing the "World Social Summit" under the title "Second World Summit for Social Development." Scheduled for 2025, this Summit represents a renewed global commitment to addressing persistent gaps in social development and accelerating progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This key document outlines the substantive elements shaping the Political Declaration, highlighting critical priorities such as poverty eradication, decent work, social inclusion, digital transformation and climate resilience. It serves as a basis for the zero draft political declaration that will be the main outcome of the Summit, ensuring a bold and action-oriented agenda for global social development.

Modalities of the “World Social Summit” under the title “the Second World Summit for Social Development”

The United Nations General Assembly has decided to convene the World Social Summit under the title, “the Second World Summit for Social Development”, in the State of Qatar from 4 to 6 November 2025.

The social summit aims to address gaps and reaffirm the principles outlined in the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and Programme of Action, while also providing momentum toward implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Registration for the 24th Session of the UNPFII

Participants from NGOs with ECOSOC Status, accredited Indigenous Peoples’ Organizations (IPOs) and academia may register via INDICO for the 24th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII2025).
